Come Prepared
Schedule a time when you won’t have to rush to anything after your treatment. To get the full benefit of the stress-relief properties of a massage, you will want to make sure you get to continue to bask in the glow of a relaxed body well after your appointment is through. Lots of clients like to go back to their room for a nap or quietly read on our back deck. Not having any responsibilities looming on the horizon also helps you to be able to enjoy the “here and now” of the massage. Remove all your jewelry and accessories and silence all of your gadgets. You want this time to be just for you, so try to avoid any distractions. Make a stop at the restroom before your appointment too.
Maximize Your Benefit
It’s important to schedule the right amount of time for your appointment. If you’re looking for relaxation, a 55-minute massage is usually adequate. If you’d like your massage therapist to work on specific sore or achy spots, schedule an 85-minute massage.
Take deep breaths at the beginning and throughout your massage. Try to calm your mind and focus your thoughts on things that make you feel at ease and comfortable. Your therapist will be able to identify and address tense muscles the more relaxed you are.
AftercareÂ
Drink plenty of water so that your body is able to flush out all the toxins that the massage has released. If you are able, a nice warm bath with some Epsom salts will help to remove even more toxins and help you continue in your relaxation. Our therapists also recommend stretching the following day to keep your muscles supple and feeling good.
