Helen, Georgia’s Arts & Heritage Center

For a place that sees upwards of three million visitors a year, the Helen Arts & Heritage Center exudes small town charm. The combination of area history and creative expression is summed up beautifully here.

The Helen Arts & Heritage Center is the brainchild of a several local women with a vision—to have a unifying place for artists to come together with common purpose. The non-profit center opened in 2007 and as the breadth of its opportunities and activities has grown, so has its popularity.

Photo of clouds hovering over the mountains with title, "Come discover the Northeast Georgia Mountains."There is a working pottery studio and a Painter’s Guild Loft where artists can work and share space and talents. Check out the center’s art gallery and you’ll see many of their works and others in a wide range of media. There is also an assortment of art classes available. Included in these are art-based therapeutic workshops for military veterans. The center offers these in partnership with Help Hospitalized Veterans, a California-based group, and is the only non-profit arts and heritage organization in the country to do so.

The other core focus of Helen Arts & Heritage Center is its history museum which tells the stories and legends of the mountain town’s 100-year history. This is a work in progress, so with each visit you may discover a new tidbit or two.
