Helen Oktoberfest A Long-Time Georgia Tradition

Helen Oktoberfest, the longest running Oktoberfest in the country, is slated for September 22 to October 30, 2016. And there’s no better place to celebrate this annual German fest than in most Bavarian of Georgia mountain towns!Oktoberfest Sign DT_50820900 copy

While most places dedicate a weekend to the event, Helen parties for over a month, so Inn guests will have plenty of opportunity to join in the fun. The Helen Festhalle is where most of the Oktoberfest activities take place. Here’s where you can experience a bit of gemütlichkeit, a German term for a convivial community spirit. You can also enjoy some great German food, including traditional brats or schnitzel—with beer, of course!

A highlight of Oktaberfest is the music, with a lineup that includes regional and national bands. It’s hard not to get up and polka or join in on a group dance; it’s part of what makes this such a joyful event.

This is also a great time to poke around the quaint town of Helen, which has many shops that sell items made by local crafters and artisans. If you’ve always wanted a pair of ledehosen, you can even find them too.
