Winter Hiking and Photography in the North Georiga Mountains

The mountains around Lucille’s Mountain Top Inn & Spa in North Georgia are full of well maintained trails, which are a great place to photograph the beauty of the winter landscape.  Anna Ruby Falls is just a short drive from Lucille’s and has a great paved trail for viewing the falls.  With the recent rains and light snows we have had the falls are flowing heavily, making for a fun afternoon of light hiking and great photo opportunities.  The hike to Raven Cliff Falls is beautiful during the winter and is also just a short drive from Lucille’s Mountain Top Inn & Spa.  Located right off the Richard Russell Scenic Highway, the Raven Cliffs trail meanders about 2.5 miles along rushing Dodd Creek, leading to the spectacular double cascade of the waterfall.

Lucille’s and the surrounding valleys were covered by a light snow last evening, so we are going to take advantage of the white winter landscape before it melts by driving into the mountains to take some pictures.  There are great winter photo opportunities along GA Highway 180 as it passes by the lower slopes of Brasstown Bald.  The scenic overlooks along the highway provide the perfect vantage point for viewing and photographing the mist over the valleys and along the edges of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Lucille’s Mountain Top Inn & Spa is a great base for exploring by day all the natural beauty of the surrounding mountains and is a warm and comfortable spot for relaxing after your excursion through the mountains.  Call us at 706-878-5055 and we will be glad to help you plan your own winter hiking and photography excursion.
