Autumn Wine Tasting In The North Georgia Mountains

Not that anyone needs an excuse to visit the North Georgia Mountains in the autumn—when colors are spectacular! But it is a wonderful time to drive around and visit the area vineyards and do a little sampling. Here are a few choice places to visit, several of which are having special fall events too.

A glass of white wine sitting on a table.Kaya Vineyards in Dahlonega is hosting a Spirit of Harvest Festival next weekend, September 23-24, 2017. The party celebrates the release of the winery’s Blue Truck wine. In addition to tasting there will be live music, artisan vendors, and food.
The winery—which sits atop a ridge and has stunning views—offers wine tastings Wednesday through Sunday, as well as light lunches on its covered patio.

You’ll find music every Saturday afternoon at Yonah Mountain Vineyards in Cleveland. The spacious tasting room opens to an equally large deck that overlooks the vineyards. A pretty setting to enjoy a glass of wine while you listen to music. Of particular interest here is the Wine Cave Tour, which includes a visit to Georgia’s only known wine cave and a tasting of nine different wines. Other events include the Masterpiece Mixer, a painting and sipping gathering held on the third Saturday of the month.

Friday night is pizza night at Serenity Cellars in Cleveland. Bring everything to make a pizza of your liking and you can cook it in the brick oven here, at no charge. While you’re waiting for it to bake, kick back with a glass of wine and enjoy live music.

Closer to home, quality Georgia winemaker Habersham Vineyards has a tasting room in Nacoochee Village that is open daily. Stop by for samples of some of their award-winning wines, such as the rich, full-tasting Scarlett; or the medium dry Traminette, with hints of rose, apple and pineapple.
