NE Georgia’s Harvest Habersham: A Farm-To-Table Gem

In the realm of restaurants that tout cooking with local ingredients, none delivers flavors quite like Harvest Habersham. It’s a favorite of ours, located in nearby Clarkesville, Georgia, about a 15-minute drive from Lucille’s.apples-in-basket-dt_44619725

Owners Chris and Laura work with dozens of area farms to garner the best fresh and natural ingredients. But it’s what they then do with those ingredients that makes their dishes sing. Everything is made from scratch, and since the menu depends on what farmers, fishmongers and foragers have to offer, it will change frequently. As I look at it, that just means more reasons to visit often!

This is a place where you’ll want to eat your veggies, which show up in delicious dishes such as butternut squash and goat cheese toasts, a recent appetizer; or served alongside of one of Harvest Habersham’s excellent entrees. Sample plates include buttermilk roasted chicken breast served with a green pimento and smoked onion cassoulet; and sautéed catfish with a peanut butter sauce and sautéed mustard greens. If wreckfish is on the menu, by all means order it! This is a personal favorite (the restaurant knows to call me when it’s on the menu).

And you’ll definitely want to save room for one of the restaurants delectable desserts. These are homemade as well and include yummy choices such as apple crumble with vanilla bean ice cream or a comforting vanilla custard and wafer pudding.

The bar at Harvest Habersham is excellent and barkeep Laura keeps it interesting by experimenting with artisanal spirits and mixers. With its fine reputation and limited hours (it’s open for dinner only Wednesdays to Saturdays), reservations are highly suggested–something we’ll happily do for our guests.
