Stomp the Grapes at Crush Fest August 31, 2013

The harvest of the grapes will be celebrated Italian style at the 4th Annual Crush Fest on the grounds of Yonah Mountain Vineyards, Saturday, August 31, 2013 from 11:00 AM to 7:00PM.

This is the Georgia Mountain Wine Country’s premier event with a turnout of 3,000 expected for the start of this Labor Day weekend’s festivities. A new wine tasting room is under construction on the vineyard property and festival goers will get a peek at what’s in store for them at Yonah Mountain Vineyards this coming season.   Take a ride in a horse drawn wagon around the 197 acre farm for stunning views of the vineyards surrounded by the beauty of the North Georgia Mountains.  Tours of the winery and Georgia’s only wine cave are a highlight of your trip through the vineyards. Yonah Mountain Vineyard’s 4th Annual Crush Fest also celebrates the first time that the area’s largest vineyard will harvest its entire 13 acres of premier grapes.   Grapes to be harvested this season include Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot.  Wines from this North Georgia vineyard region are drawing major applause from the experts nationwide and are comparable to similarly priced wines from California’s Napa region or France.

Crush Fest is a great way to celebrate the new harvest and say goodbye to the end of summer, with a host of family friendly events scheduled throughout the day.   Plan to stomp some grapes Lucille Ball style, as Yonah Mountain Vineyard owner Bob Miller serenades grape stompers on his 40-key accordion. The Atlanta Falcons drum line and the Atlanta Pipe Band will also make hourly appearances to entertain and music will be provided by other local musicians throughout the day. Atlanta’s great party bands The Mercury Orkestar and The Brandy Brothers will play for your dancing pleasure and local favorite Olde Dawg will hit your musical sweet spot throughout the afternoon. You will also enjoy the art, wine merchandise and other wares from over 40 local North Georgia artisans and vendors.

Highlights of our region’s wine celebration will certainly be the grape, with red, white, blends and varietal selections poured and sold by Yonah Mountain Vineyards and Serenity Cellars. Featured will be the release of Yonah Mountain’s Genesis 4, a Bordeaux style blend that has become the flagship wine of Yonah Mountain Vineyards.  Available for sale as well will be delicious food pairings for all Yonah Mountain wines, prepared by local chefs from Wine Country’s finest restaurants: Nacoochee Village Tavern and Pizzeria, Braselton’s Cucina Milano Catering and Jack’s Old South Barbecue.

Admission is $25 for wine drinkers and $5 for general admission.  Sixteen and under get in free.
